Adult Ministries
Adult Ministries
Sunday School. Every Sunday beginning at 9:30 a.m. We have three adult classes: The Encouragers, The Masters Class, and the Friendship Class.
Bible Studies. Join us for Bible studies that meet during the week, as well as online Bible studies that enable you to study at home.
Video Studies. Periodically on Sunday mornings we will feature video series featuring Craig Groeschel, the pastor of LifeChurch.tv. In the past we have participated in Practical Atheist and Trueish. These series can also be viewed on our website CompassTV anytime.
Of course, adults can take part is many of our other missions as well, including music, missions, media, and more.
Henderson Settlement strives to meet the basic human needs (physical, spiritual & emotional) of persons living in parts of Bell & Whitley counties in Kentucky and Claiborne & Campbell Counties in Tennessee. More than 4000 residents were served in more than 60 different ministries in 2000, including agricultural, Log House Craft Shop, Opportunity Stores, senior adult care, children’s daycare, soup kitchen, food pantry, temporary homeless shelter, youth center, recreation, maternal infant health, library, adult education, computer lab, medical transportation, and spiritual life retreats.
Eighty to ninety percent of the recipients are either low income or poverty level. Henderson Settlement is also under the umbrella of the UMC Board of Global Ministries(Red Bird Missionary Conference) but receives most support from direct gifts, grants, advance specials and earned income from ministry areas.
Missions
We have periodic Mission Meals after worship service throughout the year. Money raised from these dinners help support the following missions and more.

Henderson Settlementis an Appalachian community that seeks to provide for families with practically no means and very little hope for the future. First Church mission groups have traveled to Henderson over the years to repair houses, process sorghum, assist in food preservation, the food pantry, and other work. First Church also makes monetary contributions throughout the year.
United Methodist Mountain Mission has been working for 60 years to erase outward signs of poverty in the Jackson, Kentucky region by making brand-name apparel, toys and household items available to everyone. The date of the mission truck's arrival at First Church is announced a few days in advance.
Youth For ChristThe mission of Youth for Christ is to participate in the body of Christ in responsible evangelism of youth, presenting them with the person, work and teachings of Christ and bringing them into the local church.
Lawrence Interfaith Endeavor - LIFE Food pantry, also provides assistance with rent, utilities, and budget counseling. For more information call the Bedford office at 279-4442 and the Mitchell office at 849-2111.

Bedford First United Methodist Church has a strong musical tradition. We have opportunities for people to sing with our choir and play in our chimes ensemble.
The choir meets every Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. We invite you to come and join us.
