Henderson Settlement strives
to meet the basic human needs (physical, spiritual & emotional) of persons
living in parts of Bell & Whitley counties in Kentucky and Claiborne &
Campbell Counties in Tennessee. More than 4000 residents were served in more
than 60 different ministries in 2000, including agricultural, Log House
Craft Shop, Opportunity Stores, senior adult care, children’s daycare, soup
kitchen, food pantry, temporary homeless shelter, youth center, recreation,
maternal infant health, library, adult education, computer lab, medical
transportation, and spiritual life retreats.
Eighty to ninety percent of the
recipients are either low income or poverty level. Henderson Settlement is
also under the umbrella of the UMC Board of Global Ministries (Red Bird
Missionary Conference) but receives most support from direct gifts,
grants, advance specials and earned income from ministry areas.
